Otto Kretschmer - the most successful German U-boat commander in the Second World War. From September 1939 until his surrender in March 1941, he sank 47 ships. Called "Silent Otto" for his reluctance to transmit radio messages during patrols. He rightfully guessed British used it to located u-boots. Died at age of 86 in his home country.
