The rings were't awarded on just any day. These are the confirmed historically correct dates:
1933: 24 Dec
1934: 30 Jun (not sure about 21.3, 21.6, 30.6)
1936: 30 Jan (not sure about 7.3)
1936-1944: 20.4 (Hitler's b-day), 21.6 (Summer Solstice), 9.11 (Beer Hall Putsch), 21.12 (Winter Solstice)
 
Story of Totenkopfring: a personal gift bestowed by Himmler. The ring was initially presented to senior officers of the Old Guard (of which there were fewer than 5,000). By 1939, it was available to any officer with 3 years service in the SS, and in World War II virtually the entire SS leadership, including the Waffen-SS and Gestapo, had been given the ring. Each ring had the recipient's name, the award date, and Himmler's signature engraved on the interior. The ring came with an award letter from Himmler. It was to only be worn on the left hand, on the "ring finger". If an SS member was dismissed or retired from the service, his ring had to be returned. In the letter, Himmler wrote that the ring was a "reminder at all times to be willing to risk the life of our selves for the life of the whole".
